It’s a dark time for the American midwest. Massive dust storms stalk the land, turning crops and homes into empires of dirt. Farmers are going bankrupt, and it’s all Clovis and his family can do to keep things afloat. They fear for their lives.
When a dust storm threatens their farm, the Leikams venture out to other towns in search of food and water. Oldest son Charlie goes to fetch water from an abandoned neighboring farm, and he stumbles upon a sinister secret in the well. That secret follows him home, into his dreams, and into the damned eyes of starving people and animals.
The town takes out their despair on the jackrabbits. It’s not a pretty sight.
“Did they have a little boy?” “Yes they did, Charlie.”
Charlie’s having trouble telling nightmares from reality.
